Today is the day! When I was looking for a placement church for probation one of the reasons I was keen on the one I am at is because it is right in the centre of a busy high street and a number of young people hang about on the steps on a Saturday afternoon. There is a perception that they are 'a problem' (litter, graffiti) but I see them as an opportunity. SO I came up with the idea of trying some outreach with them - and I have been very pleasantly surprised by the level of support this received. (no shortage of vols to help, donations of hot choc/biscuits etc) For the next 6/7 weeks we are going to go out with hot chocolate and try to start some kind of conversation with the young people - we have no idea where this is going but myself and a merry band of enthusiastic volunteers are going in with our eyes open. We may be told where to go - we may on the otherhand be well received and who knows maybe in a few weeks time we will be thinking of opening up the church and have a young peoples cafe there on a saturday afternoon. The plan is to take stock in a months time.
Please pray for this project and the volunteers and supporters of it. This is something very new for this church.
